The Free Gift of Grace

Grace is a Free Gift by definition.  Many Protestants and Evangelicals are good at correctly pointing out that it isn't "Free" if you have to earn it or can lose it.  Yet they've taken on a mistaken notion that it's not a "Gift" if it can't be rejected, that you have to willingly "receive" it.

If a doctor finds a man beaten, bleeding and unconscious on the road and then chooses to heal him without charging a medical bill, is that not a Free Gift that that the man did not have to take any part in receiving?  That is in fact how Jesus presents Mankind's predicament.

The phrase "Free Gift" appears in the King James Bible only in Romans 5 verses 15-18, not once is any notion of someone needing to "receive" it mentioned.  Quite the contrary it says the Free Gift came upon All, no exceptions.

Paul reiterated repeatedly that Grace is entirely about Jesus with no assistance from us lest we should boast.  Even saying we have to "receive" it undermines that Gospel.

As many have argued before, when Ephesians 2 says we are saved by Grace through Faith, the Faith being refereed to there is of Jesus not our Faith.  In Paul's writings our Faith Justifies us but doesn't Save us, those are different things.  Justification is necessary to receive Citizenship in New Jerusalem and potentially Rewards.

It is actually only Jesus who ever refers to people being saved by their faith (Luke 7:50 and 18:42), and those contexts were in more immediate senses, they do not make Faith necessary for ultimate Salvation.

I affirm Free Will, but my understanding of Free Will is neither a Calvinist or Arminian one.

  1. You made an error in saying faith ( a gift by grace) in Jesus as Gods son is not need for ultimate salvation.
    This and Jesus own personal words prove faith /belief in Jesus as Lord / The son of God is how we are saved ( all by grace a free gift of faith)

    Acts 16:31 - They said, Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved

  2. In john it says is already judged in process of being judged until wither reoenting and believing or not and so as in mark condemned
    For in mark it says
    15And He said to them, “Having gone into all the world, proclaim the gospel to all the creation. 16The one having believed and having been baptized will be saved, but the one having disbelieved will be condemned. 17And these signs will accompany those having believed: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; 18and with their hands they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it shall never hurt them; they will lay hands upon the sick, and they will be well.”

  3. How safe do you think is the claim marks gospel should end at verse 8 & 9
    Is as it Seems to contradict johns gospel where he uses a greek word which means those who have not believed are in a process of judgment, either way as to what the outcome of the judgment will be not straightway but if they beleive
    obviously then they will no longer judged , for he who believes is not judged at all
    As for those who dont i presume is already judged until physical death where they will go to the last judgment if they have not believed even then at before their death.

  6. If it is by grace then it is no longer by works

    Lol it saved LOT AND ABRAHAM FROM DESTRUCTION BECAUSE ABRAHAM BELIEVED GOD AND IT WAS CREDITED AS RIGHTIOUSNESS AND HE WAS JUSTIFIED BY GOD AND GOD IS THE JUSTIFIER OF HE WHO HAS BELIEVED IN HIS SON JESUS CHRIST.

  10. Jared,
    Rom.5:1¶THEREFORE being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:

    THEREFORE means, that what he's going to say next is based ON WHAT HE SAID PREVIOUSLY. So we have to go back to Rom.4 to see what he said.

    20 He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God;

    21 And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.

    22 And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness.

    23 ¶Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him;

    24 But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, IF WE BELIEVE on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead;

    25 Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.

    So we see ONE HAS TO BELIEVE.

    Also how does one get the Spirit?

    Eph.1:13 ¶In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also AFTER THAT YE BELIEVED, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,

    14 Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.

    Can one be saved without the Spirit (which WE RECEIVE whence we have believed)...

    Rom.8:9 ¶But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

    WE ARE SEALED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT WHEN WE BELIEVE.

    All who BELIEVE are saved.

    ALL WHO DO NOT BELIEVE... ARE NOT SAVED. Not can they be.

    2 Thess.2:9 Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,

    10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they RECEIVED NOT the love of the truth, that they might be saved.

    11And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:

    12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

    13 ¶But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through SANCTIFICATION OF THE SPIRIT AND BELIEF OF THE TRUTH:

    14 Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

    We need to believe God and his testimonies of Jesus Christ his BELOVED son.
